Chester Castle

This year we were able to take Up the Wall to one of the city’s most prominent yet secret locations, Chester Castle.

The usually closed site spans a history of over 1000 years and has had many uses including a prison, court, mint and tax office.

Here at Chester Performs, we enjoy creating and presenting work in non-traditional venues and spaces and taking Up the Wall to the Castle this year offered both added opportunities and complexities.

Many of our visitors were excited to be able to explore the site and it has prompted debate about whether the castle could reopen after the event’s success.

A letter in this week’s local paper reads

‘Chester Castle should be open to visitors and used to its full potential… it would be a hit with visitors to the city’

What do you think?
Should Chester Castle be open to the general public?
